"Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are" ~ Bernice J Reagon

Rock Climbing
An Introduction

It is all about that impossible face that stares at you and compels you to climb.

Rock Climbing is certainly about skills. Balance, strength and power, flexibility of movement and endurance is what it takes to make you climb those sheer faces, and challenge yourself constantly to seek new faces to climb. Although every individual has physical limits, very few of us are close to reaching those potentials.

Importantly, climbing is not just about physical skills, which can be developed. It is also about attitude and about overcoming fears by realising them. Climbing forces you to confront your fears and then push your limits by understanding them, to go beyond limitations, which to a large extent you have set yourself. It teaches you to think laterally while attempting to solve a seemingly insurmountable problem. It forces you not to give up. It involves a total commitment and a level of self-motivation that becomes a part of your psyche. It teaches you to plan ahead and yet remain flexible to innovate as you go along. It trains you to have nerves of steel, to remain calm and focused in the most exacting circumstances.

Rock climbing has very little to do with actual ascent - more often than not, there are easier ways of reaching there than climbing that impossible face that stares at you and compels you to climb.

Rock climbing is for those who strive for peak performance by a perfect harmony of body and mind.
Climbing is for those of us who want to grow and who believe that every moment of life can be a growth experience, and not just time-pass.

It is for those who set themselves goals so they can constantly move their goals further. It is for those who seek to clap for themselves, who experience the surge of joy that comes from achievements which have little to do with success. It is for those who are in touch with their physical selves enough to strive for peak performance by a perfect harmony of body and mind.
